"Building bridges of knowledge and expertise between Austria and North America" - this is the mission of the Office of Science & Technology (OST) at the Embassy of Austria in Washington, DC. The OST is the strategic interface in the sciences, research, and research policy between Austria and North America.

Our core competences are:
  • Expanding and maintaining the OST Scientist Network - an interdisciplinary network of Austrian researchers, R&D managers, and S&T policy experts in North America
  • Consulting and providing information on Austrian and North American policies regarding science, research, and technology
  • Providing support and advice for initiation of new R&D cooperation between Austrian and North American institutions

Fulbright-Schuman Program for Lecturing: Call for Applications
Fulbright offers 11 to 13 Fulbright_Schuman_Program on EU affairs or US-EU relations at an accredited American university or independent research center. Candidates must be EU citizens, and will be placed in an appropriate US institution for a period of 3 to 10 months. Deadline for applications is by March 1, 2009. Please consult the Fulbright Website for further information on eligibility, funding, and application procedures.
Now Available! Guide to Residence and Employment of Foreign Researchers in Austria
A new guideline with useful information for foreign scientists going to Austria, published by the Federal Ministry of Interior, is now available. Please follow the link to find all detailed information concerning regulations for entry and residence.
EUR 35 million for the establishment of new Ludwig Boltzmann Institutes!
The Ludwig Boltzmann Society announced a call for proposals for the establishment of new Ludwig Boltzmann Institutes in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities, as well as Life Sciences. Applications can be submitted from November 17, 2008 through January 16, 2009. Please find further information on the website of the Ludwig Boltzmann Society.

2nd bridges Lecture with Norman Neureiter on December 15

Join the OST on Dec. 15 for its 2nd bridges lecture at the Embassy of Austria in Washington, DC. Norman Neureiter, bridges columnist and director of the AAAS Center for Science, Technology and Security Policy will discuss with the audience "The Internationalization of Science - What's in the Future for US Science and Science Policy?" The conversation will be moderated by Warren Leary, a science correspondent for The New York Times.

Austrian Science Talk 2008 in Chicago
The Austrian Science Talk 2008 took place on October 4 in the Knickerbocker Hotel in Chicago. Organized by the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology, brainpower austria, Ascina and the OST, the topic of this year's Talk was "The Magic Triangle of the Future: Research, Industry and Education". The event provided an excellent opportunity for networking with other scientists and representatives from Austria. Please view the official agenda in English and German.
